Use caution when shopping on line
Be careful of e-mail request for personal information, especially when they come from companies that should already have such data. Check for errors or omissions, sloppiness and telling giveaways, such as poor grammar. Also, make sure the return e-mail address looks valid. Also, review privacy policies for information sharing safeguards and customer notification processes if sensitive information is compromised.

Use Internet Security measures
Utilize firewall security and antivirus protection software applications to reduce your risk form computer hackers and viruses that expose your personal information. Also, be sure that an Internet connection is secure - with an icon of a lock visible on the Web browser - before submitting information.

Guard your personal and financial information
Verify your bills and statements on a monthly basis for illegal or unauthorized transactions and crosscut shred all documents before discarding.

Protect your personal information
Do not provide your SSN DOB, PIN numbers, passwords and security codes, unless you ask why it is necessary for them to have this information and how that information will be safeguarded.

Protect your mail
Utilize secure mailboxes and post office boxes to send mail and retrieve your mail.

Review your credit report on a regular basis
Verify the accuracy of the information in your credit report between 1-2 two times a year. Also enroll in a credit monitoring service that alerts you if there is a change in your credit report.

Guard your credit card and complete receipts
Be sure to guard your credit cards from plain view when in public. Never leave a blank credit card receipt. Get in the practice of not leaving empty spaces on your receipts and be sure total your receipts prior to signing the credit card receipt. Use cash if you are not comfortable with the vendor. Additionally, if you use a credit card, do not let the employee out of your eyesight to process the credit card transaction.

Prevent access to your personal and financial information in your home from visitors, services providers and technicians.
